Subhash Kapoor the director of Phas Gaye Re Obama is one happy man. First his low budget movie is a hit and he is in demand. Second, he is going to work his next project with Shahrukh Khan as Shahrukh had given a nod to Subhash Kapoor’s script.
And now another happy news to the director is that his debut movie Phas Gaye Re Obama is in demands for remaking. The film will now be made in Telugu by a prominent south producer who has requested for the remake rights.
Subhash Kapoor was reported to have said, “Yes it is true. Sayed Ayub, who runs a prominent production house in the south, has approached us with an offer to remake the film in Telugu.
Subhash Kapoor also had informed, “We will finalize the terms and conditions by next week. I strongly feel that while the basic concept and the storyline of the film are fresh, the film’s simplicity can be adapted in any language. The story of a millionaire getting kidnapped and people making money out of it can fit in any language and culture.”
Phas Gaye Re Obama Storyline
Phas Gaye Re Obama is comedy set against the backdrop of global recession / meltdown that originated in USA. The film traces the journey of Om Shashtri (Rajat Kapoor), an American citizen of Indian origin, who loses all his wealth overnight to the global recession & has been asked to vacate his home by the bank unless he pays up $100,000 (mortgaged amount) within 30 days. Seeing no other option Om comes to India to sell a small piece of an ancestral property. But within days of landing in India he is kidnapped by a ‘recession-hit’ underworld gang those who think that he is still a millionaire.
What happens to Om? Is he able to save his home? How did the ‘poor’ gangster cope with their ‘poor’ catch & what do small town Indian gangsters have to say to President Obama…largely forms the rest of the story. The film, showcases how global recession/ meltdown impacted lives from an America based businessman to underworld dons in the dusty plains of small town India, in a funny way!
Among the list of low budget movies. Which made it to the mass as well as critics this year, which includes Tere Bin Laden, LSD, Peepli Live, proved that a story with a good concept can win against any odds!
